RISE, SHINE & HOOP!
Student Intervention and Engagement Program
FGS is committed to the engagement, success and academic achievement of the students participating in the Rise & Shine Hoop’s Program. We seek to re-connect the students to the academic environment through a three – prong engagement strategy which is inclusive of the following strategies:
·Morning Re-connection Activities (Intramurals, Group Discussions, etc)
·Weekly student connections (Independent of Morning Re- Connection Activities)
·Rise, Shine, and Hoop Incentives
FunGame is using the research based strategy of School Connectedness which works to foster the belief for students that adults and peers in the school care about their learning as well as about them as individuals. Through this strategy, FG will focus on the cultural, real and perceived barriers to attendance as we recognize that attendance is the connector to becoming successful in school; if you are not there, you cannot learn. Through various activities, we will work with the students to re-engage them in the learning process, thus, allowing for the opportunities to become successful at school.
To achieve this goal, FG must have a working partnership with the school, through this partnership; we believe that while we may not change the students’ holistic viewpoint on education, we can begin the process of re-connection to achieve the following short term goals:
·Increasing attendance for first period
·Decreasing tardies to first period
·Decreasing the amount of referrals
Throughout the duration of the program, FunGame Sports is committed to the long term goals of:
·Working with the Staff to gather information about poor attendance to later periods of the day
·Assist in creating interventions to assist in re-connecting students to the learning processes of the later periods of the day
·Meeting with caregivers to provide assistance in decreasing barriers that may exist to school attendance
