ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE PROGRAM
FGS is committed to the engagement, success and academic achievement of students. We seek to re-connect the students to the academic environment through a three – prong engagement strategy which is inclusive of the following strategies:
·Exposure Trips
·Social Emotional Learning workshops & Internships
·Attendance Incentives
FunGame is using the research based strategy of School Connectedness which works to foster the belief for students that adults and peers in the school care about their learning as well as about them as individuals. Through this strategy, FunGame will focus on the cultural, real and perceived barriers of Chronic Absence as we recognize that attendance is the connector to becoming successful in school. According to Hedy Chang (Executive Director of Attendance Works); there is a direct correlation between chronic absenteeism and performance. Through SEL workshops, we will work with the students to re-engage them in the learning process, thus, allowing for the opportunities to become successful at school. Our exposure trips help tear down the barriers, by removing students from a normal school setting which will allow us to captivate their attention.
To achieve this goal, FunGame develops partnerships with school districts, through these partnerships; we believe that while we may not change the students’ holistic viewpoint on education, we can begin the process of re-connection to achieve the following short term goals:
·Expose all seniors to a college campus
·Develop self –awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success
·Increase the amount of students with perfect attendance
Throughout the duration of the program, FunGame is committed to the long term goals of:
·Assist with guidance of graduating seniors career goals through summer internships
·Assist with career and job placement opportunities as they become available
·Work with the staff and parents to gather information about students with attendance issues
